Minivans don’t get enough love, here are the 2023 Toyota Sienna and 2023 Honda Odyssey. Today we take a look at the clash of two mighty ones. It is a well-known fact that minivans don’t receive much attention in the automotive industry.

This is simply because they aren’t as flashy, as fast or luxurious as some other vehicles. But the minivans have their purpose and their place in the vehicle pecking order. They are mostly regarded as family cars and they do it quite well. Let’s take a look at two big names in this category.

2023 Toyota Sienna Brief Review

This vehicle is sitting comfortably between an SUV and a minivan. Its design is very appealing and is probably what puts it on top of many others in that category. Check out full review of 2024 Toyota Sienna Hybrid.

The current generation is the third year in a row of hybrid-only powertrains. This is a good thing as the whole industry is streaming in that direction. So why not jump earlier on this hype train? On top of that, Toyota is well known for its green energy engines.

The Sienna, unlike other iterations of Toyota’s minivan, is only available as a hybrid. A 2.5-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine and two electric motors working together to produce 245 horsepower make up the powertrain. There is an all-wheel drive option that adds an additional third electric motor in the back to power the back wheels. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Sienna’s major rival, is only available with front-wheel drive and has a V-6 engine and electric motors that provide 260 horsepower.

The minivan also comes with all-wheel drive but isn’t as fast as some might like it to be. It reaches 60mph in a meager 7.7 seconds. But then again, this is a minivan, not a straight-line racer. It is however quite easy on the wallet when fuel is concerned. It achieves 36 mpg of combined driving which is quite impressive as the minivan itself is not a small one.

The interior is modern and stylish as it has leather upholstery with some luxurious stitching patterns. The dashboard is digital with an infotainment unit in the middle of the instrument panel. The second row can be switched for captains’ seats. There is plenty of trunk room and you can even put a vacuum cleaner inside of it.

There are many trims on offer. We have LE for $37000, XLE for $42000, XSE for $45000, and Woodland Edition for $48000. There is also the 25th-anniversary version for $48000, Limited for $49000, and Platinum for $52000. Not really cheap for a minivan.

2023 Honda Odyssey Brief Review

If you think that minivans have to be slow and not gracious, well let us introduce you to the Honda Odyssey. It comes with a quick accelerating V6, but if you need a family vehicle, well Odyssey is that as well. It is utilitarian and has a lot of functionality. Just what the doctor ordered for a big family.

The Honda Odyssey is efficient and quick on its feet. It is quick in the corners and the steering is very responsive. You can almost forget you are driving in a three-row minivan that isn’t supposed to be able to do that. But don’t get too excited, it is still a minivan and you won’t be racing down the line with this one. Although it is one of the better-driving minivans on the market. It achieves 28 mpg on the open road, which is not that bad. But there are better ones in the same category.

The inside of the vehicle is stylish. Not as luxurious as you would hope, but it is a minivan after all. It has three rows that are detachable to increase trunk space. Upholstery is leather with contrast stitching. The infotainment system is still present in the middle of the screen. But the dashboard is digital and comes with a plethora of safety features. However, we don’t believe we will be getting hands-free driving. The infotainment is 8 inches in size and just big enough so everyone can see what is playing on the screen.

There are less trims than with the Sienna. We have EX trim for $38000, EX-L for $41000, Sport for $42000, Touring at $45000 and Eliter for $50000. Neither of these minivans come really cheap. But when all is said and done, they are worth the money.
